High
Peak Access Groups
The High Peak is covered by four Access groups, namely Access Buxton, Access Glossop, New Mills and District Access and Hope Valley Access. All were formed over the past few years to campaign on behalf of and for the rights of people with disabilities.
The majority of the members of these groups are themselves disabled, though that is not a condition of membership.
The individual access groups liase and meet as a joint High Peak group to achieve common goals, share expertise, discuss campaigns and assist one another in the promotion of accessibility in the High Peak area.
Our next big joint project is to be the audit of railway stations in the High Peak. We also work on local issues in our own areas, responding to whatever is brought to our attention at the time, and initiating a project where we see the need.
Many members of all the High Peak Access groups have received training in access auditing during the past two years. This enables us to advise on the adaptations needed to bring buildings etc into line with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act .
Website
This website is one of the co-operative ventures of the High Peak access groups. It has subsections for each of the four areas, which can be accessed from the panel on the left or via the domain names accessbuxton.org.uk, accessglossop.org.uk, hopevalleyaccess.org.uk and accessnewmills.org.uk.
The website is currently being developed, as the volunteers who run and participate in the access groups gather and contribute content.
